* The Peruvian government has announced an agreement with transport unions including Asociación de Empresas de Transporte Interprovincial de Pasajeros (Cotrapoip) and Unión Nacional de Conductores del Perú (UNT Perú) to end a
strike which began on 15 March over various demands. According to a press release by the transport & communications ministry (MTC), the agreement reached on 20 March includes a guarantee that diesel will be included in the state fuel price stabilisation fund, a demand made by unions due to a rise in fuel prices since the beginning of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Not all unions have accepted the agreement, however.
Martín Ojeda, the director of the Consejo Nacional de Transporte Terrestre (CNTT) bus workers’ union, complained that the government’s proposals are
“not clear at all” and said that the union would not rule out further strike action.
