* Peru’s foreign trade & tourism ministry (Mincetur) has released new figures which show the country’s exports totalled US$7.39bn in the first two months of 2021, up 3.5% on the same period in 2020. The figures show that exports in February totalled US$3.57bn, up 4.5% on the same month in 2020 of which non-traditional exports (which include agricultural products, textiles and chemicals) totalled US$1.7bn, up 15.3%. Mincetur head,
Claudia Cornejo, highlighted the performance of non-traditional exports compared to traditional exports (which include minerals, hydrocarbons, and coffee) noting that these “
increased for the seventh month in a row”. Cornejo said that this “
clearly shows the important performance of the country's export sector” despite the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. According to the Mincetur figures, the most dynamic sector was fishing, which grew 117.1% in February 2021 compared with February 2020 and 81.1% in the first two months of 2021 compared with the same period in 2020.
