In brief: Mexico to benefit from US stimulus, says IMF

* The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has noted that Mexico will be “one of the big beneficiaries of the US$1.9trn rescue plan package” implemented in the US by the government of President Joe Biden. Speaking during a press briefing on the IMF's latest World Economic Outlook report, IMF Chief Economist Gita Gopinath noted that Mexico will see “a two-speed recovery”, with external demand picking up thanks to the US stimulus, while domestic demand remains subdued. The IMF forecasts that Mexico’s GDP will grow 5% this year, after contracting 8.2% in 2020.
