In brief: Guatemala hails rise in exports

* Guatemala’s economy ministry has highlighted new figures from the central bank (Banguat), which show the country’s exports totalled US$1.09bn in January 2021, up 7.9% on the same month in 2020. According to the figures, cardamom was the leading export (US$180.2m), followed by textiles (US$117.2m), and bananas (64.9m). The main markets were the US (US$314.6m); Central America (US$287.3m); Europe (US$88.5m); Saudi Arabia (US$55.9m); and Mexico (US$42.1m).
