In brief: Grupo Infra opens new oxygen plant in northern Mexico

* The Grupo Infra, a conglomerate specialised in the production and sale of industrial and medical gases, has opened a new plant in Ciudad Juárez, in Mexico's Chihuahua state. This plant, which involved a M$400m (US$19.9m) investment, will produce medical oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. The company intends to contribute to industrial development and the health sector in northern Mexico by generating 250 direct and indirect jobs, adding to the company’s existing 4,000 employees. Grupo Infra highlighted the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic as a huge contributor to the increase in demand for medicinal oxygen. A priority for the new plant will be making sure local hospitals have enough oxygen supplies, after December 2020 and January saw some Mexican cities, including the capital Mexico City, suffer from oxygen shortages in the face of an uptick in Covid-19 cases and hospitalisations.
