In brief: Brazil’s coffee exports grow in Q1

* Brazil’s national council of coffee exporters (Cecafé) has released its latest report, which shows that coffee exports totalled 11.02m sacks (one sack = 60kg) in the first quarter of the year, a 10.4% increase on exports in Q1 of 2020. This year’s Q1 exports were worth US$1.44bn, a 6.1% increase on last year. “The performance of [Q1] exports is a result of the record [coffee] harvest produced by Brazil in 2020”, Cecafé president, Nicolas Rueda, said, while remaining cautious on the outlook for the rest of the year, due to “preoccupations with global logistics” (because of the coronavirus [Covid-19] pandemic) and forecasts of a lower yield harvest.
