BOLIVIA: MAS humbled in regional elections

While the global spotlight was focused more on the outcome of the presidential elections in Ecuador and the general election in Peru, there were also regional elections staged in Bolivia on 11 April. The results were eye-catching. The ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) suffered a severe setback. Acknowledging that the MAS had fallen well short of the ambitious targets he had set, former president Evo Morales (2006-2019), the MAS party president, called an urgent post mortem.
