In brief: Petroecuador’s production recovers

* Ecuador’s state-owned oil company, Petroecuador, has announced that its production has recovered and is now above 400,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed). Petroecuador’s general manager, Gonzalo Maldonado, said that “this year we resumed activities that were suspended or reprogrammed, enabling us to achieve this objective despite restrictions of the [coronavirus] Covid-19 pandemic”. Maldonado attributed the increased production to the drilling of new wells and the use of fracking in some established wells. He added that a new horizontal oil well in the Acuca oil field, which began operations on 12 May, has a potential output of 3,000 boed. In the next six months, Petroecuador is planning to increase drilling at its most productive oil wells: Acuca, Sacha, Sushufindi, Boloque 43-ITT, Apaika, and Edén.
