In brief: Costa Rica's economic activity rises year-on-year

* Costa Rica’s central bank (BCCR) has published its latest monthly economic activity index (IMAE), which showed a 3.9% year-on-year increase in March, up 10.2 percentage points on the same month in 2020. The BCCR report notes that this is the first positive IMAE growth year-on-year after 12 consecutive months of contraction as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. According to the BCCR, the country’s GDP contracted by 4.1% in 2020 and it is forecasted to grow 2.9% this year.
