PERU: Castillo’s lead narrows further

Pedro Castillo, the far-left candidate standing for Perú Libre in Peru’s second-round presidential election on 6 June, has seen his once-striking lead over Keiko Fujimori of the right-wing Fuerza Popular (FP) evaporate over the last two weeks. As the candidates prepare for a second debate on 30 May, both have sought to assuage fears over their candidacies, taking the unusual step of attending a joint ceremony to pledge their commitment to democratic principles.
