VENEZUELA-COLOMBIA: Killing of Farc commander spells uncertainty

The killing of ‘Jesús Santrich’ (Seuxis Paucias Hernández), a dissident commander of the disbanded Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc), has shattered the notion that his Segunda Marquetalia unit was effectively untouchable in Venezuela. With reports indicating that Segunda Marquetalia is siding with the Venezuelan government amidst an offensive by a rival dissident Farc unit, ‘Martín Villa’, Santrich’s death could tip the playing field in favour of the insurgency.
