CUBA: Economic prospects darken

The Cuban government continues to highlight the damaging impact of the decades-old US embargo and tighter sanctions adopted under the previous US administration led by Donald Trump (2017-2021) as key causes of the economic strife afflicting the island which has also been badly affected by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Its calls for Trump’s successor, Joe Biden, to change course have yet to meet with success: the new US administration has indicated that this will depend in part on the human rights situation in the country [WR-21-05].
