BRAZIL: Cedae auction signals privatisations still on the agenda

The Brazilian government’s rhetoric on privatisation has often exceeded the reality of a frequently delayed, bureaucratic, and highly politicised process. However, the successful auction of Cedae, Rio de Janeiro state’s water and sewage utility, highlights that divestments are gathering pace, and despite doubts over political uncertainty, foreign investors are getting involved.
