TRACKING TRENDS

BRAZIL | Investment levels remain subdued. On 26 May, Brazil’s central bank (BCB) published its statistics on the external sector for the month of April, which show that foreign direct investment (FDI) to the country remains subdued. FDI to Brazil totalled US$3.5bn in April 2021; this is up from US$1.6bn in April 2020, when the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic prompted a global economic shutdown, but down from the US$6.9bn received in March 2021.
