In brief: Bolivia’s agricultural exports register strong surplus

*Gary Rodríguez, the director of the Instituto Boliviano de Comercio Exterior (IBCE), a private secotr lobby, has said that Bolivia's agricultural trade balance registered a surplus of US$430m in January-April 2021, which Rodríguez said was nearly double the amounts recorded for the same period in 2020 and 2019. Rodríguez attributed the strong trade surplus to a 49% increase in the value of agricultural exports, and an 11% increase in their volume. Meanwhile, he noted, agricultural imports had decreased in value by 4% and in volume by 9%. Rodríguez also expressed his “certainty” that, if exports continue to perform strongly and receive greater incentives from the government, Bolivia’s GDP will increase by 5% in 2021.
