In brief: Tourism picking up in Mexico

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released new figures which show that 2.32m international tourists visited Mexico in April 2021, a 199% increase on the same month in 2020 – indicative of the impact of restrictions taken to stop the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. However, this is still down from 3.6m registered in April 2019. The Inegi report showed that revenue from international tourism totalled US$1.18bn in April 2021, up 1,547.8% on April 2020 but still a 37.6% decline on April 2019.
