In brief: Annual rise in Peru’s productive output

* Peru’s national statistics institute (Inei) has released figures showing that national productive output increased 13.8% in January-April 2021 compared with the previous year, closing the month of April 58.49% higher than in the same month in 2020, when the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic caused a 39.09% decline in production. However, in year-on-year terms productive output between May 2020 and April 2021 fell by 3.37%, demonstrating the continued impact of the pandemic. Production in April remained 3.46% lower than April 2019, before the pandemic. Strong year-on-year production growth was also seen in the hospitality (889.13%) and trade (158.32%) sectors. Farming was the only sector to see negative growth (-5.2%).
