In brief: Guatemala and UK shore up trade ties

* Guatemala’s economy minister Antonio Malouf has met virtually with UK Trade Commissioner for Latin America and the Caribbean Jonathan Knott to discuss ways to boost trade and investment between the UK and Guatemala. According to a press release by the UK government the two “agreed it was important to continue to develop the trade relationship and to keep strengthening the rule of law to attract UK investors to Guatemala”. According to official figures, Guatemala’s exports to the UK totalled over US$220m in 2020, up 34% the previous year while UK exports to Guatemala were equal to US$89m in 2020.
