COLOMBIA-VENEZUELA: Duque gets first-hand experience of border violence

The bullets that slammed into the military helicopter carrying President Iván Duque on 25 June marked the second high-profile attack on Colombia’s authorities in 10 days, and triggered alarm that the country’s internal conflict may be intensifying once again. Whilst an investigation is still underway, the government has indicated that the Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) guerrilla group and a dissident unit of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) are the primary suspects.
