In brief: Brazil’s Petrobras launches largest oil exploration platform

* Brazil’s state-owned oil firm, Petrobras, has announced that its FPSO Carioca platform has departed for the Sépia oilfield, where it is expected to begin operations in August. This will be the most productive oil platform in operation in Brazil, capable of producing 180,000 barrels per day (bpd), representing approximately 8% of Petrobras’s output. FPSO Carioca will also be capable of processing 6m cubic metres of natural gas per day. According to a Petrobras statement, the platform will be in operation for 21 years.
