In brief: Uruguay’s inflation exceeds gov’t target

* Uruguay’s national institute of statistics (INE) has released the latest consumer price index figures (IPC), which show that the monthly inflation rate for June stood at 0.67%, bringing the accumulated rate to 4.75% so far this year and the 12-month figure to 7.33%, slightly above the government’s target range of between 3%-7%. The monthly figure for June compares with 0.46% registered in May where the 12-month figure was 6.64%. INE data shows that monthly inflation in June was primarily driven by rising prices in the sectors of: food & non-alcoholic beverages (up 0.11%); housing (0.11%); transport (0.14%); and leisure & culture (0.14%).
