ARGENTINA: New understanding with the IMF

After another round of discussions with International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff, the Argentine government has announced that it has reached “understandings” with the multilateral lender over the efforts to renegotiate the country’s outstanding debt and the provision of fresh financial assistance to help it overcome economic difficulties. Renegotiating Argentina’s debt with the IMF and securing new credit lines is a top priority for the government led by President Alberto Fernández. It remains to be seen if a deal that will obtain broad political support in Argentina is feasible.
