HAITI: Power struggle intensifies at the top

Following the shocking assassination of President Jovenel Moïse last week, the international community has recognised interim prime minister Claude Joseph as Haiti’s current leader. However, Joseph’s claim has been contested by Ariel Henry, who Moïse had named as prime minister days before his death, and, more recently, senate president Joseph Lampert who opposition figures have named as their own transitional president. This uncertainty at the top comes as the investigation into who was behind Moïse’s murder has failed to shed much light.
