In brief: Mexico’s economy minister talks USMCA in the US

* Mexico’s economy minister Tatiana Clouthier has met US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo in the US, where the two discussed bilateral issues including the importance of relaunching a high level economic dialogue to deepen bilateral economic relations. Among other things, the two also discussed the need to assure resilient value chains; sugar; tomatoes; and how to take advantage of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on regional trade in the framework of US President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan. While in Washington DC, Clouthier also discussed economic relations and USMCA with US Representative Richard Neal (D-MA), who chairs the House of Representatives’ ways and means committee, and other legislators such as Senator Patrick Toomey (R-PA), a member of the Senate finance committee. She also met with representatives from the US Chamber of Commerce; car industry group Auto Drives America; American Automotive Policy Council, a US lobby group representing car manufacturers Ford Motor Company, General Motors Company and Stellantis; and Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers of US leading companies, among others.
