In brief: Brazil’s stock of formal jobs grows

* Brazil’s economy ministry has released the latest figures from the national employment registry (Novo Caged), which show that 309,114 jobs were created in the formal sector in June, with positive formal job creation registered across all sectors of the economy and geographical regions. This is up from the May figure, when Brazil saw the creation of 280,666 formal jobs. In the first six months of 2021, over 1.5m formal jobs were created in Brazil, and the total stock of formal jobs now stands above 40m. Economy Minister Paulo Guedes has celebrated the fact that this is the first time since the country’s 2015-2016 recession that Brazil’s formal job market has reached the mark of 40m posts.
