The growth of matriarchy

Family connections are key elements in many facets of Mexican life. Business revolves around family capital which leads to the creation of conglomerates and holding companies. This phenomenon marginalises institutional investors and, arguably, produces weaker regulation and thinner markets. In politics, a name is far more important than rhetorical ability or ideological consistency. In crime, gangsters (not only in Mexico) traditionally prefer to rely on blood relations.
