In brief: Honduras’s economic activity continues to rise

* Honduras’s central bank (BCH) has released the latest figures for its monthly economic activity index (Imae), which show that economic activity grew 20.9% in June 2021 year-on-year, the fourth consecutive month of growth after increasing 30.5% in May, 27.0% in April, and 13.5% in March. The Imae figures show that in the first half of 2021, economic activity increased 12.4% compared with the same period in 2020. Honduras’s economy contracted 9% in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the latest (July 2021) forecast by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (Eclac) expects that Honduras’s GDP will grow by 5% in 2021.
