* Venezuelan NGO, Convite, has published a survey of elderly people in the states of Apure, Guárico, Mérida, Trujillo, and Zulia, which found that 86.9% of respondents live in poverty, while 94% lack the income to cover their expenses on medicines, food and transport. In addition, 38% of respondents said that they regularly reduce the amount they eat due to the cost of food, whilst 96% experience interruptions in their electricity and 85% in their water service. Of those interviewed who were entitled to a Comité Local de Abastecimiento y Producción (CLAP) government food ration, 36% said they receive one box every three months and over half said that one box lasts them less than 15 days. On health, Convite found that around 78% of elderly Venezuelans use some form of medication, but just 5% of respondents reported being able to easily acquire this.
