In brief: Argentina’s Fernández highlights industrial recovery

* Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández has hailed the recovery of the country’s industrial sector, which saw its activity shrink by 7.5% in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Speaking during an event in Chaco province to mark Argentina’s Day of Industry, Fernández said “we are in a vertiginous process of growth, with 65% of installed [manufacturing] capacity being used” and called upon business owners in the sector to keep “betting on an Argentina that is powered through industry”. The latest figures from the national statistics institute (Indec) show that the index for manufacturing grew 22.4% in the six months to June, compared with the same period in 2020.
