In brief: Uruguay’s inflation accelerates again

* Uruguay’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new figures for the consumer price index (IPC), which show that inflation has started accelerating again, after showing signs of slowing in recent months. Inflation grew 0.85% in August compared with the previous month, above market expectations of 0.62%. This brought annual inflation in the 12 months to August to 7.59%, up from 7.3% in July and outside the central bank’s (BCU) target range of 3-7%. August inflation was driven by a monthly increase in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.86%), transport (1.78%), health care (1.77%), housing (0.53%) and education (1.72%).
