In brief: Private sector lowers forecasts for Brazil economy

* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest issue of its Focus bulletin, a weekly survey of private sector analysts, which shows that expectations for the Brazilian economy this year are worsening. The analysts surveyed for the Focus bulletin have revised down their forecast for 2021 GDP growth for the fourth consecutive week; after the publication of Q2 negative growth figures last week, they now expect 5.13% growth this year, down from a forecast of 5.22% a week earlier. Meanwhile, forecasts for inflation continue to rise, with inflation now expected to close the year at 7.58%, up from projections of 7.27% a week earlier. Analysts have now revised up their inflation forecasts for 22 weeks without interruption.
