In brief: Colombia’s oil production declines

* Colombia’s mines & energy ministry has reported that oil production in July reached 731,255 barrels per day (bpd), a decrease of 0.5% compared to the 734,987 bpd reported in July 2020. In the first seven months of 2021 oil production totalled an average of 730,138 bpd, down 8.9% on the same period in 2020. With the oil sector hit hard by reduced domestic and international demand as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the latest government figures nonetheless show that the July 2021 oil production figure was up 5.3% on June – an increase that it attributes to the re-establishment of production after the lifting of blockades caused by the massive anti-government protests which took place in May and June.
