MEXICO: Full recovery to pre-pandemic GDP levels will not be reached this year

On 25 August Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) disclosed that real GDP during the second quarter of 2021 grew by 1.5% relative to the first quarter (Q1), when it grew by 0.8%. In yearly terms, the economy grew by 19.5% between April and June 2021 compared to the same period of 2020, when GDP contracted by a record -18.8%. Altogether during the first six months of the current year, GDP grew by 7.4% relative to the same period of 2020.
