In brief: FDI to Brazil remains strong

* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released its latest data on the external sector, which show that foreign direct investment (FDI) to the country surged year-on-year in August. According to the BCB, Brazil received US$4.5bn in FDI in August, up 73% on the US$2.6bn received in August 2020, but down from the US$6.1bn received in July 2021. In the 12 months to August 2021, FDI totalled US$49.4bn (3.12% of GDP), up from US$47.5bn (3.04% of GDP) in the 12 months to July, but down from US$56.8bn (3.61% of GDP) in the 12 months to August 2020.
