* The Confederación Argentina de la Mediana Empresa (Came), an Argentine organisation representing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), has released the latest figures from its monthly index of SMEs’ industrial production (IPIP), which show that SMEs recorded a strong performance in August. The IPIP grew 1.1% in August compared with July, driven by a strong performance in the paper, cardboard, publishing & printing category (+10.1%) and the wood & furniture category (+4.1%). In year-on-year terms, clothing & textiles (+43.5%) and paper, cardboard, publishing & printing (+34%) drove an overall 20.2% expansion in the IPIP. The only category to see a negative year-on-year performance was transport material & parts (-0.7%).
“Despite the uncertainty that comes with any electoral race, industrial production continued its upwards trend in August”, the Came said, in reference to the political uncertainty generated by the compulsory primaries that were held in September ahead of Argentina’s legislative mid-term elections in November.
