In brief: Argentina’s economic activity continues to grow in July

* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the latest figures for its monthly indicator of economic activity (Emae), which show that economic activity expanded 0.8% in July compared with June, the second positive monthly result after the Emae registered contractions from February to May. In year-on-year terms, the Emae grew 11.7%, reflecting the low basis of comparison in July 2020 when the impacts of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic continued to drive a sharp drop in activity. In year-on-year terms, 13 of the 15 sectors surveyed saw positive growth in July, with a particularly strong performance for fishing (+251.6%), other activities in community, social, & personal services (+88%), and hotel & restaurants (+55.4%). Meanwhile, negative year-on-year performances were only reported for agriculture, livestock, hunting & forestry (-3.6%), and financial intermediation (-1.3%).
