In brief: Brazil’s coffee exports slump but revenues up

* Brazil’s national council of coffee exporters (Cecafé) has released its latest statistics report, according to which a total 3.11m sacks of coffee (one sack = 60kg) were exported in September – a 26.5% drop on the volume of coffee exports in September 2020. However, revenue from coffee exports was up 0.5% year-on-year, to US$518.2m. Coffee exports over the first three months of the 2021/2022 harvest year (July to September) were down 20.2% year-on-year to 8.8m sacks, although revenue was up 3.3% to US$1.37bn. Cecafé president Nicolas Rueda attributed the drop in exports to ongoing logistical issues in global maritime trade. The US remains the number one importer of Brazilian coffee, followed by Germany, Belgium, Italy and Japan.
