Argentine ministers meet IMF representatives in Washington

Argentina: On 11 October, Argentina’s economy minister Martín Guzmán and president of Argentina’s central bank (BCRA) Miguel Pesce led a working meeting with representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC where they addressed technical aspects of negotiations to restructure the US$44bn debt that Argentina has with the IMF. Participating in the meeting also were the IMF’s Deputy Director for the Western Hemisphere, Julie Kozack, and the head of the IMF’s mission for Argentina, Luis Cubeddu, among others. Guzmán, who was in Washington from 11-15 October, also met IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva and was there for activities related to the 2021 Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group (WBG) as well as the summits of ministers from G20 and G24 countries. Also taking part in some of these meetings with Guzmán was Juan Manzur, who President Alberto Fernández named as the new cabinet chief last month.
