* The electricity sector reform promoted by Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has come under renewed criticism, after representatives from the mining and agricultural sectors separately warned of the reform’s negative impact on their industries. Mexico’s mining chamber of commerce (Camimex) has put out a statement warning that the approval without modification of the reform would “severely affect not just the mining industry, but all Mexicans”. Amongst other things, Camimex warns that the reform’s proposed restrictions on the use of any mineral considered “essential for the energy transition” would generate uncertainty for investors. The agricultural sector has separately raised concerns of its own, with the president of the Consejo Nacional Agropecuario (CNA), Juan Cortina, saying during an event that the reform would increase costs for farmers, with the agricultural sector’s dynamism already starting to diminish.
