In brief: Hydrocarbon royalties increase in Peru

* The Peruvian extractive industry lobby Sociedad Nacional de Minería, Petróleo y Energía (SNMPE) has announced that the hydrocarbon sector paid US$749.8m in royalties between January and September this year, representing a 130% increase on the same period in 2020. Royalty payments for September were up 196.5% year-on-year, amounting to US$130.9m. Of this figure, US$63.2m was related to the extraction of natural gas; US$51.9m came from the production of liquified natural gas (LNG); and US$15.8m came from oil extraction. The SNME attributed the increase in royalties to rising international prices for oil and natural gas, and to the recovery of the Peruvian and global economy from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
