In brief: Mexico seeks US investment for development

* Mexico’s foreign and economy ministers, Marcelo Ebrard and Tatiana Clouthier, have held a meeting in the state of Tabasco with the US ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, several governors of southern Mexican states, and US business representatives, to discuss a plan of action to spur development in southern Mexico. According to the Mexican government, an agreement has been reached for a target US$25bn to be invested between 2022 and 2024 into projects which will drive the economic development of the Mexican south-east. Mexico’s economy ministry is now responsible for “designing a plan of action to achieve this [investment]”.
