In brief: Costa Rica’s exports post solid growth

* Costa Rica’s official export promotion agency (Procomer) has released new figures which show the country’s goods exports totalled US$10.8bn in the first three quarters of 2021, up 27% on the same period in 2020. Procomer highlights that this is the highest growth of the last five years for this period. According to Procomer, growth was driven by medical and precision equipment, which was up 41% in the first three quarters of 2021 compared with the same period in 2020 and accounts for 35% of the country’s exports. The food industry, which accounts for 14% of Costa Rica’s export sales, was up 26%; the chemical-pharmaceutical sector, which accounts for 6%, was up 12% while electrical-electronic goods, which accounts for 5%, was up 45%. Agriculture, the second biggest export sector, accounting for 22% of total exports, was up 6%.
