In brief: Brazil’s formal sector sees job creation in September

* Brazil’s labour & social security ministry has released the latest figures from the employment registry (Novo Caged), which show that 313,902 jobs were created in the formal sector in Brazil. This brings the stock of formal sector jobs in Brazil to 41.8m, with the net creation of 2.5m positions over the course of 2021 so far (January-September). In September, all five employment categories – the services sector, general industry, commerce, construction, and the agricultural sector – saw net job creation. Labour Minister Onyx Lorenzoni hailed these latest figures as a sign that Brazil’s employment sector is recovering from the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The unemployment rate in Brazil stood at 13.7% in the rolling quarter ending in July, the latest available figures.
