BRAZIL: Covid-19 inquiry targets healthcare provider

In April this year a parliamentary commission of inquiry (CPI) was set up in the Brazilian senate to investigate the government led by President Jair Bolsonaro’s response to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Since then, the CPI has heard testimonies from cabinet ministers, doctors, public officials from different levels of government, lawmakers, and representatives from a variety of businesses linked to medical procurement, as it seeks to uncover where and how the Bolsonaro government was remiss in its management of a pandemic which has left Brazil with over 600,000 dead, the second-highest official death toll in the world. In late August, a company called Prevent Senior came to the CPI’s attention.
