In brief: Honduras revises up 2021 GDP growth forecast

* The president of Honduras’s central bank (BCH), Wilfredo Cerrato, has said that Honduras’s economy will grow between 8%-9% this year after contracting 9% in 2020 due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and impact of hurricanes Eta and Iota, which made landfall last year. This far exceeds previous GDP growth forecasts of 3.2%-5.2%. He said that the revision upwards followed an acceleration of economic activity in the second half of 2021, particularly in the areas of trade and manufacturing.
