MEXICO: Growing violence in Zacatecas

On 24 November the federal government announced it was sending a detachment of national guard (GN) troops to the state of Zacatecas, in an attempt to control a growing wave of violence. Zacatecas is considered strategically important for drug trafficking organisations (DTOs) since it is something of a crossroads, bordering states such as Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, and Jalisco, and acts as a hub for different drug trafficking routes.
