MEXICO: ‘Remain in Mexico’ migrant programme reinstated
On 2 December, Mexican and US authorities announced that they had reached an agreement to reinstate the migrant protection protocol (MPP), also known as the ‘Remain in Mexico’ programme, a controversial programme from the Donald Trump administration (2017-2021) which requires migrants who are seeking asylum in the US to wait in Mexico while their application is being processed.
