In brief: Unemployment drops in Ecuador

* Ecuador’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released the latest employment figures, showing that unemployment stood at 4.4% in November – a reduction of 1.2 percentage points compared to November 2020. The workforce participation rate was 66.5% (an increase of 1.5 percentage points year-on-year). However, the underemployment rate increased by 0.4 percentage points to 24.5%. Women were more likely to be unemployed, with an unemployment rate of 5.8% compared to 3.4% for men. Unemployment was significantly lower in rural areas, standing at 1.7% versus 5.8% in urban areas.
