In brief: Ecuador’s GDP grows in Q3

* Ecuador’s central bank (BCE) has published the latest GDP figures, calculating that the country’s economy expanded by 5.6% in Q3 2021 compared to the same quarter in 2020. In quarterly terms, the economy grew by 0.5% compared to Q2 2021. The Q3 growth was driven by increases in household consumption (+11%), gross fixed capital formation (+7.8%), and government consumption (+3.3%). The BCE estimates that the positive Q3 figures will increase Ecuador’s total 2021 GDP growth to 4%, up from its previous forecast of 3.6%.
