MEXICO: Tensions rise between Morena and INE

The president of Mexico’s national electoral institute (INE), Lorenzo Córdova, has asked that criminal complaints filed against him and five other INE councillors be dismissed. Córdova said the complaints, which were filed by a member of the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena), were reminiscent of “the worst practices of authoritarian regimes”. This latest confrontation between the INE and Morena indicates tensions between the two sides show no sign of abating in the new year.
